A geomorphic evaluation was performed to document and inventory the existing natural stream features throughout the Burlington Creek, Prairie Creek and Walnut Creek watersheds. This survey inventoried the existing environmental condition of the stream system including old growth forests, palustrine wetlands, emergent ephemeral plant communities, and notable riparian corridor features. Particular detail was invested in the identification and distribution of rare and/or endangered plant and animal species.
Numerous water samples were also analyzed to determine ecological indications of water purity in relation to microinvertebrate populations. The results of such information can be utilized to identify and remedy sources of nonpoint source pollution impacting the wildlife in the riparian corridor.
Throughout the 20-plus miles of streams and tributaries, a fluvial geomorphic analysis was performed by engineers with Terra Technologies. This information was catalogued and will be used as the basis for on-going policies and procedures associated with future planned residential and business communities throughout the impacted watersheds.
The recommendations provided were submitted in the Spring of 2002 and are currently being utilized to identify a prioritized list of project objectives. |
