David Flick, Principal and Founder of Terra Technologies, announces the firm has received a Nationwide 404 Permit authorizing impacts to jurisdictional waters for the Amazon Fulfillment Center. Amazon will construct an 855,000 square foot warehouse on the southwest side of Riverview Avenue and Turner Diagonal area in Kansas City, Kansas and they employ more than 1,000 new jobs to the area. The center will handle packing and shipment of smaller items, including books, electronics and toys.
Nationwide Permits that authorize impacts to jurisdictional waters resulting from most projects are limited to 300 feet of tributary impacts. When requested by the applicant, the US Army Corps of Engineers can evaluate the merits of waiving the 300 foot limitation when impacts occur to tributaries whose function is impaired prior to impact. Impairments are often associated with the absence if riparian corridors and other stream impacts upstream and downstream from the project site.
As a permit condition, the applicant is required to purchase mitigation credits from the Stranger Creek Stream and Wetland Mitigation Bank and the Kansas River and Missouri River Umbrella Mitigation Site 1 serving the project watershed.
