David Flick, principal and founder of Terra Technologies, is proud to announce the issuance of a Public Notice by the Kansas City District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the proposed establishment of the Pottawatomie Creek Wetland & Stream Mitigation Bank which will be operated by Swallow Tail, LLC. Located along Pottawatomie Creek in Miami County, Kansas, this proposed 322-acre mitigation bank is Swallow Tail’s largest to date.
This proposed mitigation bank will restore approximately 91 acres of additional forested riparian buffer along the many streams within the site, enhance 20 acres of existing riparian buffer, establish 105 acres of herbaceous floodplain wetlands, enhance 2 acres of existing forested wetland, establish 46 acres of upland buffer and enhance 37 acres of upland forest buffer among other mitigation activities. Of particular importance is the plan to construct multiple stream grade control structures to address the rampant stream base incision and resulting bank instability throughout this site.
The improvements to the stream, riparian buffer, wetland and upland buffer habitats on the site are proposed to be used as compensatory mitigation for unavoidable impacts to streams and wetlands within the portions of the Marais Des Cygnes River, Little Osage River and Blue River watersheds within Kansas.
The public notice will expire on February 14, 2014.
