David Flick, Principal and Founder of Terra Technologies, is proud to announce that the Kansas City District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has initiated a Public Notice regarding the proposed establishment of the Little Blue River Wetland and Stream Mitigation Site which will be operated by Swallow Tail, LLC. This is the second mitigation site developed under Swallow Tail’s Central Plains / Blackwater / Lamine EDU Umbrella Mitigation Bank, a regional mitigation program to replace wetlands and streams impacted by development in west-central Missouri.
This 90-acre mitigation site is located along the Little Blue River in Independence, Missouri. This restoration site currently consists primarily of row crop farms fields along with forested stretches of Crackerneck Creek and an intermittent stream. Swallow Tail proposes to increase the quantity and quality of aquatic habitat on this site by:
- Restoring 33.84 acres of herbaceous marshes
- Enhancing 1.26 acres of existing wetlands in the farm fields
- Restoring 35.26 acres of riparian forest
- Restoring 15.5 acres of upland buffers and adjacent uplands surrounding the onsite wetlands
- Restoring 591 feet of previously channelized Crackerneck Creek so that it has a natural sinuosity and channel cross section
- Stabilizing the incised channel beds of Crackerneck Creek and Intermittent #1 by installing multiple engineered rock riffles
