David Flick, Principal and Founder, announces that the firm has successfully completed Section 404/401 Clean Water Act permitting for the Line Creek Trail project in Kansas City . The existing low water crossing in Vaydik Park is being replaced with an engineered structure with more capacity to handle water flow and sloped edges to reduce clogging. As part of the replacement, portions of the Line Creek stream bank will also be restored.
The replacement of the low water crossing is the second of three phases to complete the trail from the Line Creek Community Center to Vivion Road in Riverside. The first phase, which is almost complete, added one mile of trail between I-29 and the Community Center. The third phase of the project will begin in the spring and will complete the Line Creek Trail from I-29 to US 69/Vivion Road Bridge over Line Creek. When complete, the Line Creek Trail will be more than four miles from Vivion Road to Northwest Platte Brooke Drive.
Scientists at the firm coordinated a Phase 1 Cultural Resource Investigation to ensure protection of nearby archaeological sites. Additionally, scientists characterized the type and extent of jurisdictional ephemerals streams bisecting the trail in several locations. Additionally, John Kahl, principal and geomorphologist with the firm designed bank stabilization improvements adjacent to the trail in defined segments.
