Terra Technologies successfully completed a Natural Resource Assessment of a 15-acre Conservation Corridor in Lenexa, Kansas.
Lenexa Logistics Centre created by Ken Block with Block Real Estate Services is a large industrial warehouse development in construction at 119 th and Renner. The development abuts an older residential development with an undersized storm culvert of insufficient size to convey predevelopment runoff. In order to develop the adjoining industrial tract and attenuate post development runoff, Mr. Block directed engineering and scientific staff to design an extended wetland detention BMP facility to handle the existing pre-development and post development runoff within the sub-basin.
The wetland basin replaces existing low habitat value farm ponds on the parcel, and provides persistent pools with adjacent uplands to favor salamandor habitat. Water collected in the basin is metered at a controlled rate for discharge through existing culverts, and wetland vegetation is selected to withstand prolonged periods of inundation. When completed, greater than 150 species of native wetland and upland plant species will be present on the parcel. A large prairie grass area buffers the industrial and residential developments.
Scientists at Terra Technologies performed a Natural Resource Assessment report to qualify the site for a Section 170 tax deduction as a relatively natural form of terrestrial and aquatic habitat.
